House Committee on Property Tax Meets Wednesday (February 18, 2026)
The House Select Committee on Property Tax Reduction and Reform, set up by Speaker Hall to consider options to reform or reduce local government property taxes, will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, February 18, at 10:00 a.m. Those who wish to watch the meeting live can do so here. NCACC Executive Director Kevin Leonard spoke to the committee at its last meeting in January, along with other presenters from the North Carolina League of Municipalities, UNC School of Government, and the Legislative Analysis Division. Topics covered included where taxing authority derives from, how property taxes are collected, and what services and infrastructure local governments fund with the revenue. While we have yet to see the agenda for next week’s meeting, NCACC has not been invited to present again. We continue to engage with the committee and House and Senate members and encourage county commissioners to be ready to share what essential services and public benefits property taxes fund in their county.
