
Raleigh, N.C. — The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) hosted a comprehensive training session for County Board Chairs titled “Leading Your County Governing Board: An Orientation for County Board Chairs” on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in Wake County. The full-day event brought together newly elected and experienced county leaders from across North Carolina to provide them with valuable insights and tools for strengthening leadership and enhancing governance at the county level.
The day-long event kicked off with a welcome from NCACC President Tare “T.” Davis, Warren County Commissioner, who set the tone for the day’s discussions on effective leadership and county governance. Topics included the legal and procedural responsibilities of county board chairs, effective strategies for leading board meetings, and best practices for collaborating with staff. Attendees were provided with practical tips on managing social media during times of crisis and how to communicate and lead effectively during disaster response situations. Sessions were led by Jennifer Slusser, Johnston County Attorney; Amy Bason, NCACC Deputy Director and General Counsel; Darrell Frye, Randolph County Board Chair; David Ellis, Wake County Manager; Neil Emory, NCACC Outreach Associate; Julie Parker, Julie Parker Communications; and Kevin Leonard, NCACC Executive Director.
