FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. – The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) convened in Forsyth County on February 6-7, 2026, for its winter meeting, bringing together county leaders from across the state to discuss priorities impacting North Carolina’s 100 counties.

The meeting opened Friday afternoon with the administration of the oath of office, executive officer updates and general board business. The board approved prior meeting minutes and engaged in discussion on emerging county issues.

NCACC President and Perquimans County Commissioner Wallace Nelson provided an update on his presidential initiative, NC Counties Care: Access Within Reach. The presentation included insights from Carolina Demography, highlighting the importance of data-driven decision-making as counties plan for growth and change.

Financial and operational matters were also key topics of discussion, including a comprehensive financial update, review of policies, discussion of association property matters and an overview of the North Carolina Investment Pool. Board members also received updates on upcoming events and member engagement efforts.

Saturday’s session continued with an association update and discussion on property tax administration, featuring perspectives from national and state association leaders. The board also received legislative updates and an in-depth presentation on the state of the economy, helping frame the challenges and opportunities counties may face in the year ahead.

President Nelson emphasized the importance of collaboration, shared learning and forward-thinking leadership as counties navigate both current responsibilities and long-term challenges. He highlighted the board’s continued focus on positioning counties to effectively serve residents while preparing for the future. The meeting concluded with an executive director annual review in closed session, followed by closing remarks from President Nelson. The NCACC Board of Directors remains committed to advocating for counties, strengthening local governance and ensuring counties have the tools and resources needed to serve their communities effectively.
