JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. – The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) convened in Jackson County on May 15-16, 2026, for its spring meeting, bringing together county leaders from across the state to discuss strategic initiatives, legislative priorities, organizational planning and member services impacting North Carolina’s 100 counties.

Presided over by NCACC President and Perquimans County Commissioner Wallace Nelson, the meeting featured presentations and action items focused on the Association’s long-term strategic direction, fiscal planning, advocacy efforts and operational updates. The Board received welcome remarks from Michell Hicks, principal chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, during Friday’s session.

Among the key actions taken during the meeting, the Board reviewed and discussed updates to the NCACC Strategic Plan and considered the proposed FY 2026-2027 NCACC budget. Board members also received updates from the Association’s executive officers and leadership staff regarding ongoing initiatives and organizational priorities.

Saturday’s session focused heavily on legislative and operational matters, including updates on the legislative goals process, Association facilities planning, District Meeting feedback and member services initiatives. The Board also heard updates related to NC Counties Care: Access Within Reach, President Nelson’s presidential initiative focused on improving access to essential services for residents across North Carolina counties.

“This meeting reflected the continued commitment of county leaders to work collaboratively on the issues that matter most to our counties and residents,” said President Nelson. “From the adoption of our new strategic plan — giving us a solid roadmap to guide the Association for the next five years — to legislative advocacy updates, our Board remains focused on ensuring counties have the resources, partnerships and support needed to serve our communities effectively.”

Additional presentations were provided by NCACC staff leaders and committee representatives on advocacy efforts, organizational operations and future planning initiatives designed to strengthen support for county governments statewide. For more information about NCACC, the 2025-26 board members and its initiatives, visit ncacc.org
