Wake County, N.C. â The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners is called into action as its 108th president works to shine a light on the public service workforce and its impact in North Carolina communities. At a swearing-in ceremony during the Associationâs 2024 Annual Conference, NCACC President and Warren County Commissioner Tare âTâ Davis unveiled his presidential initiative, âHeroic Hands: Celebrating Public Service,â which focuses on honoring the dedication of North Carolina public service organizations and their workers.Â
âMy presidential initiative will highlight the value of having a career in public service and challenge us, [county government leaders], to work with state leaders and our intergovernmental partners to promote workforce training needs in local government,â said NCACC President Davis.
Among the first of these significant public workforce awareness days is Patriot Day also known as the National Day of Service and Remembrance, recognized every year as the United States comes together to remember the sacrifice of those first responders who risked their lives to save others on September 11, 2001.
âPatriot Day is our chance to say, âthank youâ to the men and women who work tirelessly to serve and to protect our country and community,â said President Davis. âDuring my presidential year, I will do all I can to seek out these awareness events and bring them into the spotlight so that this Association and its county members focus our attention on public service. Collectively, we will highlight the value of a career in public service and support those in our counties whose daily efforts keep our counties functioning smoothly.â
Through this yearâs presidential initiative, NCACC President Davis will call on the Associationâs executive leadership team, staff and county colleagues throughout the state to designate time to honor those in public service â first responders such as police officers, EMS workers, firefighters and military; public health professionals, social workers, counselors, mental health care providers, teachers, park rangers, resource professionals and countless others â for their invaluable service and continuous impact in communities across the state.
