Description

The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Communications. This position serves as the County's primary communications professional and spokesperson, promoting transparency, public trust, and awareness of County services, programs, initiatives, and accomplishments by planning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive communications, public information, and community engagement strategies .

Essential duties and responsibilities include developing and implementing a countywide communications and public information strategies; serve as the primary media contact and official spokesperson for Rowan County; manage social media platforms and digital communication channels; coordinate public outreach campaigns and community engagement activities; develop and maintain crises communication plans and protocols; create employee communications and engagement initiatives; and manage communications budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships. 

Salary

$96,100 to $120,000 (commensurate with experience). Excellent benefits package available.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Administration, or a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience, including two years in a leadership role or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree/Coursework must be from an appropriated accredited institution. Experience in local government communications, crisis communications, and multimedia content creation preferred. A valid driver’s license is required and ability to attend evening and weekend meetings as needed.
