Description

Caldwell County is currently seeking experienced, professional, energetic, outgoing, & action-oriented candidates for the position of County Manager. Caldwell County is a county with 83,811 residents, a large and diversifying manufacturing base, and beautiful outdoor opportunities that include the Blue Ridge Mountains, Pisgah National Forest, nationally designated Wild and Scenic River Wilson’s Creek, Lake Hickory, and Lake Rhodhiss. The county recently made significant public investments with two new middle schools, two EMS stations, multiple community college facilities, a new branch library, and solid waste facilities while maintaining a low level of debt.

The County Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the County with 542 full-time and 129 part-time employees. The FY21-22 Budget totals $112.4 million with a General Fund of $87.4 million.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • strong interpersonal skills;
  • the ability to develop and manage a budget with multiple capital projects and collaborate with various partners;
  • the ability and inclination to get out of the office and connect with the public, employees, businesses and community organizations;
  • the ability to communicate well with the Board of Commissioners;
  • the ability to effectively mentor and manage staff; and
  • ability to develop strategic goals and projects with the Board of Commissioners, county departments, county partners and stakeholders.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation with a master’s degree (preferred) in public administration or a related field as well as 7-10 years of experience as a local government manager or department head.

The hiring range is $160,000-$185,000 depending on qualifications with a full benefits package.  The position is open until filled but please submit a cover letter, resume, references, and WPCOG application to WPCOG Executive Director Anthony Starr, at P.O. Salary
