If you consider yourself a community-minded leader - both passionate and successful in supporting career development for individuals - the City of Greensboro invites you to consider applying to serve as the Workforce Development Director for the GuilfordWorks Workforce Development Board. This professional will serve as the public face of the Workforce Development department in the community. The Director will prioritize developing relationships with municipal partners and strengthening relationships with local colleges and universities. With the State evaluating and most likely restructuring local area workforce boards and further reducing funding for many workforce development programs in the near future, the Director will be challenged with strategically creating and implementing a short and long-term vision for securing unrestricted program funds to ensure viability and sustainability without reliance on governmental funding.

About the Department and Position: GuilfordWorks - the Greensboro/High Point/Guilford County Workforce Development Board (WDB), which is one of 22 Workforce Development Boards in NC, provides access to learning opportunities for young adults, career services for underemployed adults/dislocated workers, an adult specialized apprenticeship program, and business services to help local businesses secure and manage their talent. The Director assists the 23-member Board in developing its strategic vision and priorities; implements and provides oversight of WDB initiatives and programs and facilitates development of stakeholder and community partnerships in support of its strategic goals. While administratively reporting to one of four City of Greensboro Assistant City Managers, the Director oversees a department budget of $10M and 23 FTE employees as well as various contracted employees.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree and 7 - 9 years of breadth and depth in workforce development is required with a preference for 5 years of progressive supervisory experience in workforce development and local government familiarity. 

Salary and Benefits: The full range is $105,148-$175,147.  The hiring range is $105,148-$140,198. Beginning salary will be commensurate with experience. The City offers a highly competitive benefits package. There is a residency requirement to live within thirty miles of the city limits of Greensboro or move within these boundaries within 12 months of appointment to the position.
