Description

The Town of Ayden is seeking a qualified, energetic, and professional candidate for the position of Town Manager. The Town Manager is the chief executive officer and manages the day-to-day operations of seven (7) departments and over 70 employees with a total town operating budget of approximately $21-million. Ayden is a Public Power community and a member of the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency and ElectriCities. The Town has a long history of the Council-Manager form of government with Mayor and Commissioners elected every four (4) years and with staggered terms. With a diverse population of more than 5000, Ayden is the third largest town in Pitt County located six (6) miles south of the City of Greenville (pop. 95,183) within close proximity to East Carolina University, Pitt Community College, and Vidant Medical Center. Known as “One of the Best Small Communities in America to Raise a Family,” Ayden is ideally positioned halfway between Raleigh and the Coast. With the opening of the new NC11 Southwest Bypass, the town is poised for rapid growth with the recent approval of 1300 residential lots, opening of a historic 9,000 sq. ft. building in the central business district by a regional retail merchant and is in the midst of planning and implementing key strategic projects that will impact quality of life and the town’s future growth potential. A successful candidate is one that is mature, confident and an adaptable leader, whose accomplishments demonstrate effectiveness, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to present multiple options for consideration, while making a clear and professional recommendation for a course of action. A successful candidate will further have a proven track record of forging partnerships with private and government entities to accomplish community goals and be successful at motivating and managing department heads to work as a team to accomplish organizational goals and positively represent the organization to citizens. Requisite skills include strong strategic planning skills to produce budgets, economic development objectives, operational plans, long-term capital plans and manage capital construction plans on time and within budget.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in public/business administration (or related field) and at least 5 to 10 years of local government management experience to be considered. A Master’s degree in public/business administration is preferred. The successful candidate will be required to live within the corporate limits of Ayden within a timeframe to be negotiated.
