As part of the communications team at the Association, plays a key role in creating written content for Association publications and general outreach efforts. This position will work with the team to develop messaging and content and will have regular contact with external audiences including Association membership, key stakeholders, and media outlets.



  • Work closely with Communications Manager and internal teams at the Association to develop and execute strategic plan for the communication functions of the Association.
  • Create and edit written narrative and journalistic content for Association publications, including articles for CountyQuarterly magazine, weekly entries for email newsletters, articles for the Association website, and other written communication needs that arise.
  • Draft and distribute press releases for media outreach highlighting major Association activities, events, and developments aimed at promoting the work of counties across the state.
  • Provide messaging support for general communications efforts and assist in the development of speeches, notes, and talking points for the Association’s executive officers.
  • Develop messaging for social media outlets to accomplish member outreach as well as external awareness of Association initiatives.
  • Contribute to all Association departments on writing, proofreading, and message development needs.
  • Serve as a member of editorial board to identify and pitch stories for CountyQuarterly content while working to identify opportunities for coverage of stories that promote the work of the NCACC’s membership.

Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, public relations, or related area, or a combination of education and experience, with five years of experience in a professional communications setting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  

Strong verbal and written communication skills; thorough knowledge of AP style and English grammar. Knowledge of social media best practices and experience in developing written content on social media platforms representing the voice of an organization and/or business. A collaborative and creative mindset with a willingness to accomplish projects alongside a dynamic communications team.
