New Hanover County is seeking a Public Health Director for the consolidated Health and Human Services agency. Duties include overseeing the budget, implementing policies, interpreting decisions made by the Board of Commissioners and the Human Services Board, responding to changes in policy, overseeing program expenditures, performing public relations duties, and overseeing department personnel management. Requires thorough knowledge of public and environmental health philosophies and practices, to include methods for eliminating health disparities in a diverse community. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships, strategic planning, and the ability to exercise sound judgment.


The current salary range for this position is $97,484 – $165,722. The hiring range for this position is $97,484 - $131,603 + a competitive benefits package. Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible public health administration experience that includes three (3) years of management level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Must be available for evening meetings, special events, and during emergency situations. Must obtain residency in New Hanover County within 6 months of employment.
