The person in this position will be responsible for the overall planning, organizing, directing, and scheduling of building and grounds maintenance projects. Some of the major functions of this position include preparing the annual budget; direct crews in performing building and grounds cleaning, repair and maintenance services; enforce safety regulations; ensure work complies with standards; administer a variety of building repair and maintenance projects for carpentry, electric, heating, ventilation, air condition (HVAC), plumbing and other services; estimate costs; prepare bid specifications; plan projects and schedule projects and preventive maintenance work; project long term planning for the department and set priorities and completion dates. This position also assists and advises the County Manager, Management Team, and departmental officials on building and operational needs.
The hiring range for this position is $50,387 - $63,783. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in construction management or related field and at least 5 years’ experience in the building trades including 2 years of supervisory experience. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of appropriate contractor’s license(s). Possession of refrigeration and asbestos operation and maintenance certificates. Halifax County requires each department head reside within the county borders by the completion of their nine-month probationary period.
