DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Iredell County Health Director will direct the operations of the Iredell County Health Department which consists of a central facility in Statesville with additional branch offices in Statesville and Mooresville in a county of 196,000 people. The health department’s annual budget is in excess of $12 million with a staff of 111 employees. The position will direct fiscal, personnel and general activities of the department. Programs include prenatal, family planning, pregnancy testing and counseling, immunizations, child health screenings, postpartum-newborn home visits, communicable disease control, sexually transmitted disease control, public health preparedness, supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children (WIC), dental, public health laboratory, care management for at risk children and pregnant women, health promotion and education, environmental health and public health accreditation. Powers and duties of the local health director are outlined in North Carolina General Statute 130A-41.

Salary

$127,472.05 - $163,164.23

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (1) A medical doctorate; or (2) A masters degree in Public Health Administration and at least one year of employment experience in health programs or health services; or (3) A masters degree in a public health discipline other than public health administration, and at least three years of employment experience in health programs or health services; or (4) A masters degree in public administration, and at least two years of experience in health programs or health services; or (5) A masters degree in a field related to public health and at least three years of experience in health programs or health services; or (6) a bachelors degree in public health administration or public administration and at least three years of experience in health programs or health services. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of management principles, techniques and practices. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practice of public health. Working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations. Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions. Ability to direct employees and programs in the various areas of responsibility. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, community partners and with federal, state and local officials.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: Ability to interact with staff, people at all levels of government, citizens and community leaders. A high degree of accuracy is required in all functions of this position. The individual in this position must have a high energy and stamina level in order to carry out all duties and responsibilities.
