This position serves as the chief executive officer of the Graham County Department of Public Health. The Local Health Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Agency. This position is responsible for promoting and protecting the health of the public in Graham County and carrying out all the applicable federal, state, county and local Board of Commissioners rules and regulations. Work involves providing leadership and directing program development and implementation, establishing program standards and monitoring and evaluating the quality of service delivery systems. Supervises budget activities and maintains direct involvement in conflict/complaint resolution, staffing and personnel issues and serves as the principle spokesperson for the agency relative to public health issues. Work involves representing Agency with government officials, health care providers, public/private schools and a variety of advocacy groups to influence the decision making process in order to ensure adequate resources for program maintenance, expansion and the delivery of comprehensive services
Salary range is $28.83 - $49.01 per hour.
A master’s degree in public health administration & at least one (1) year of employment experience in health programs or health services; or a master’s degree in a public health discipline other than public administration & at least three (3) years of employment experience in health programs or health services; or a master’s degree in public administration & at least two (2) years’ experience in health programs or health services; or a master’s degree in a field related to public health & at least three (3) years of experience in in health programs or health services; or a bachelor’s degree in public health administration or public administration & at least three (3) years’ experience in health programs or health services.
General knowledge of management principles, techniques, and practices. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public health. Working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions; direct employees and programs in the various areas of responsibility; and, develop and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, federal, state, and local officials.
