Stokes County, NC is seeking an experienced finance professional to serve as their next Finance Director. This position is responsible for maintaining the County’s financial information by providing financial security and stability for the County and ensuring the cost effective, efficient, and timely procurement of necessary goods and services. The Finance Director can effectively navigate complicated issues, be swift and strategic in problem solving while mitigating risks and ensuring compliance throughout the organization. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in fiscal leadership and stewardship and the ability to effectively communicate complex financial issues to various stakeholders.

The County is seeking an approachable, collaborative, and accountable financial professional. The candidate must demonstrate extensive knowledge and application of NC General Statutes, the principles and practices of general fund and local government accounting, the preparation of financial statements, and complex external financial reports, including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

Desired strengths include financial management, budget development, revenue forecasting and long-range planning to build and maintain the County’s financial position.   The successful candidate must be a responsive, detailed, and deadline-oriented professional who advocates for best practices to enhance processes and customer service. County leaders seek an individual that values policies, procedures, and processes that support innovation, automation and efficiency within the department and organization and prioritizes efficient reporting as well as long-range planning to achieve and maintain financial sustainability.  

The Finance Director must be a compassionate, confident leader who motivates and mentors staff and emphasizes a culture of providing excellent customer service.

Salary

The hiring range for this position is $83,700 to $133,900.  The starting salary will be competitive, and negotiable based upon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.  The County has a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance, accrued sick and vacation leave

Qualifications

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related field with extensive knowledge of governmental financial management systems, related statutes and regulations and more than six years of progressively responsible public finance administration; or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the job. The candidate must be able to secure credentials as a Certified Public finance officer or CPA within twelve months of employment.  Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in accounting, business administration or a related field and CPA certification.
