Sampson County seeks an outstanding strategic manager and leader for their Emergency Services (ES) Department. The ES Director is expected to be engaged both internally and externally, trusting his or her staff to manage their Divisions but involved with Department members, fellow department heads, volunteer fire and rescue departments, citizens, and partners in multiple jurisdictional agreements. Reporting to the County Manager, the Emergency Services Director manages eight divisions with a staff of seven (7) direct reports and 71 downline supervisors and employees and provides managerial and administrative oversight to the Emergency Services Department.
Expected hiring range is $72,132-$85,008 depending on qualifications. The County provides a generous benefits package. Residency within the County is required within a negotiated timeline.
Minimum Qualifications: Well-rounded exposure to 911, EMS, Emergency Management, and Fire Service culminating in 3-5 years of emergency services experience at a manager level or higher. Bachelor's degree in emergency services or a related field is preferred. The selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
The ESD is responsible for a budget of $8.2M. The Emergency Services Department provides services in E-911 Communications, Paramedic-Level Emergency Medical Services, and Emergency Management, Fire Marshall, Fire Inspections, Fire Investigation, 911 Property Addressing and Road Naming to the residents of Sampson County. The Emergency Services Director plans, directs and coordinates a comprehensive emergency services program for the County and serves as a key advisor to the Board of County Commissioners and County Administration, and all municipalities regarding emergency incidents and activation of the Emergency Operations Center.
