The Edgecombe County Manager is accepting applications for a full-time Emergency Services Director. This person will be responsible for managing and directing all activities of the Emergency Services Department, and related work as apparent or assigned. The work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the County Manager. Continuous supervision is exercised over the Deputy Fire Marshal, Emergency Services Coordinator, and Emergency Medical Services Coordinator.

Essential Functions include:

  • Directing the activities of the department;
  • Planning, organizing, and directing emergency response operations;
  • Assigning and supervising departmental personnel operations;
  • Supervising the administrative matters of the department;
  • Monitoring and observing departmental activities; and
  • Participating in training and instruction programs.


The salary range is $48,169 - $79,801 with excellent benefits that total over $11,000 annually in addition to a 2% county contribution to 401k. The starting salary is determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

Comprehensive knowledge of modern firefighting and emergency medical and rescue methods; comprehensive knowledge of the use and operation of a wide variety of fire more, rescue and auxiliary apparatus; comprehensive knowledge of laws, rules and regulations relating to fire control and prevention; thorough skill when operating a generator and standard truck; ability to plan, initiate and carry out long term programs in fire administration, employee training and fire prevention; ability to plan, assign and coordinate activities performed by a large group of employees and volunteers in varied firefighting and rescue work; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, County officials, outside agencies and the general public.

A high school diploma or GED and considerable experience working in emergency management services, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
