The City of Fayetteville, NC seeks a Economic and Community Development Director candidates who will be entrepreneurial, tech savvy and creative in using strategies that promote the City’s assets while looking for ways to overcome challenges. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in grants administration and partnering with community stakeholders to develop innovative strategies that produce new opportunities such as the recently awarded HUD Choice Neighborhoods Planning and Action Grant. The Economic and Community Development Director will be a member of the City Manager’s executive leadership team, report to an Assistant City Manager, and will serve as the City’s key economic and community development expert.
Starting salary will be negotiated depending on qualifications up to a maximum of $135,000.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field is required, while a relevant master’s degree is preferred. As the Director, this person must demonstrate significant experience in a department with similarly diverse facilities and functions, serving an urban environment. The candidate’s work history must include well-rounded experience and six years of increasingly responsible experience in Economic and/or Community Development including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.

With 13 employees and an operating budget of approximately $1.7M, the Economic and Community Development Department has four key divisions: Community Development, Economic Development, Housing, and Homelessness. The Director also liaises with three community committees: Fayetteville Redevelopment Commission, Fair Housing Board, and the Fayetteville-Cumberland Economic Development Board.
