The Deputy County Manager assists the County Manager by providing information and analyses for decision-making; provides advice and guidance to department/agency directors to include the Halifax County Management Team. This person will coordinate projects and assist in the preparation of the annual budget. In the absence of the County Manager, this person will perform duties as the chief administrator of the county. The person in this position will oversee and direct the assigned departments by developing work plans, discussion on-going issues and solving problems. This person will monitor county departmental budgets and will coordinate and implement the county’s capital improvement plan. Will handle special projects as assigned by the County Manager and perform related tasks as required.
The hiring range for this position is $72,778 – $92,151. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in public administration, political science, business administration or a related field, supplemented by a master’s degree in public or business administration and considerable experience in local government operations. Ideal candidate will possess: Experience working in a supervisory role in the County Manager’s office of a North Carolina County Government or as a county department director for at least five years in a North Carolina County Government. ICMA Credential Manager designation highly desired.
Halifax County requires each department head level position to reside within the county borders by the completion of their nine-month probationary period.
