County Social Services Director
Description
The County of Surry is accepting applications for the position of County Social Services Director. This position serves as the administrative officer of the Department of Social Services, working in a range of general administrative and management functions to ensure compliance and adherence to all relevant Federal and State laws, regulations and statutes. The Director manages a staff of 115 employees and is responsible for administering a total budget of approximately $11.6 million. This employee is responsible for budget planning/preparation and assessment of program needs. The position is also responsible for the development and implementation of local agency programs, policies and procedures and evaluating agency's overall efficiency and effectiveness. An important component of the position is to lead the agency through significant changes in structure and operations through implementation of several new initiatives. The position represents the agency in community planning, working with the media, and directing community relations of the agency. This position earns hour for hour comp time.
Salary
SALARY RANGE: Grade 84 $87,857 - $151,089 Salary is commensurate with education and experience
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Social Work and two years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services; or Bachelor's degree in Social Work and three years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services, one of which must have been in Social Services; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services, two of which must have been in Social Services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference will be given to individuals possessing the following skills: outstanding management skills, demonstrated leadership ability and strong oral and written communication skills. Selected candidate must be able to articulate a vision for Social Services, build collaborative community relationships, address needs with innovation, and demonstrate a strong commitment to client service. Candidate must have the ability to promote and enhance achievement of measurable objectives. DSS leadership experience is preferred.
