Performs chief administrator work in a broad range of general administrative and management functions of the Halifax County Government. Major responsibilities include implementing the policies and programs of the Board of County Commissioners; supervises the preparation of the annual budget for presentation to the Board of County Commissioners; implementing the adopted budget; serves as administrative head of the county government; directs the operations of county departments; serves as the county representative to private and public organizations outside of county government; implements County Personnel Policy; appoints employees to all non-elected positions; advises the Board of Commissioners periodically on matters relating to the County’s fiscal condition; provides public information about County programs, services, and operations; advises the Board of Commissioners on policy matters; oversees preparation of reports and studies required by the Board of Commissioners. Work is performed under general supervision from the Halifax County Board of Commissioners.
Candidate’s starting salary will be negotiable and commensurate with related education and experience. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited
college or university with a degree in public administration, political science, business administration or a related field, supplemented by a master's degree in public or business administration and considerable experience in local government administrative operations.
Halifax County requires a department/agency head must be a resident of Halifax County or agree to become a resident within six (6) months from the date of acceptance of this position.
