Mitchell County is seeking a skilled professional with proven leadership ability to serve as the next County Manager. Mitchell County prefers a County Manager who will successfully establish and foster both internal and external relationships.
The five-member governing Board of Commissioners is seeking a candidate with strong finance, budget, administrative, and leadership skills who will also encourage growth. Additionally, the County Manager will lead employees across multiple departments and build teams to provide quality services to the County’s citizens while receiving direction and carrying out the vision of the Mitchell County Board of Commissioners.
Mitchell County employs 144 employees across 17 departments and has a total budget of $21.5 million. The County Manager serves as chief administrator of county government and maintains responsibilities for administering all departments under the general control of the five-member Board of Commissioners. The general duties are based upon the North Carolina General Statute 153A-82.
$80,180 – $120,270 dependent on qualifications and experience. The County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System.
Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or closely related field is required; or an equivalent amount of education, training, and experience that would allow the candidate to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Candidates with five plus years of successful supervisory and management experience with strong administrative, budgeting, and communication skills are preferred.
Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License. Successful candidate is required to live at and maintain a principal residence that is located within less than thirty miles to the Town Limits of the Town of Bakersville within 180 days of employment, or a reasonable Board approved time limit.
