THE TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY, located on the beautiful Crystal Coast in eastern North Carolina, is currently seeking an energetic, self-motivated, and detailed-oriented candidate for the position of BUILDING INSPECTOR (any level). Morehead City is the largest incorporated town in Carteret County with a permanent population of over 16,000 residents (including its ETJ) and encompassing over sixteen (16) square miles of land area (10 square miles = corporate limits; 6 square miles = ETJ).
RESPONSIBILITIES of the position include, but are not limited to, reviewing plans and issuing permits as allowable under municipal ordinance and state statutes; inspecting residential and commercial construction, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; meeting and working with contractors, owners, design professionals, and city staff on various projects/developments, etc.; recording inspection results/plan review comments in online permitting software; providing code interpretations; and attending continuing education as required by the North Carolina Code Qualification Board.

SALARY & BENEFITS: Compensation will be dependent upon qualifications/experience and the level of inspection certifications. Hiring ranges as follows:
- Building Inspector I - $44,916 - $51,653
- Building Inspector II - $47,162 – 54,236
- Building Inspector III - $51,997 - $59,780

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Level I certifications in Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical trades under the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board. Preferred candidate would possess Level II or Level III (or combination) certifications in Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical trades.
Possession of a valid, unrestricted NC Driver’s License required. Background/drug testing required.
