Anson County, population of approximately 24,446, is seeking a successful public sector leader and professional to serve as its next County Manager. Anson County is located in the south central region of North Carolina, bordered by Richmond, Stanly and Union counties, and Chesterfield County, S.C. The county seat of Anson County is Wadesboro.
The Manager serves at the pleasure of a seven-member Board of Commissioners. This highly visible position requires a person with the ability to motivate, communicate effectively, lead, plan and execute within budget. The Manager is the chief administrative officer for 25 departments, 240 full time and 80 part time employees with an annual operating budget of $37.8 million (General Fund: 30 million, Enterprise Fund: 7.8 million).
Responsibilities include supervising county personnel, preparing and submitting the annual budget, recommending the property tax rate and working closely with the Board of Commissioners to determine the goals and objectives to provide effective and efficient services to citizens. The Manager is responsible for attending all Commissioners, Anson Economic Development Partnership, and other necessary county meetings. The Manager is also responsible for executing orders, ordinances, and resolutions. Furthermore, the County Manager is ultimately responsible for making sure that annual financial audits are submitted to the Local Government Commission on time.
The person filling the position should be a positive change agent and possess the ability to motivate staff toward achievement of collectively agreed upon goals. Successful candidate must be an innovative leader and team builder with strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to effectively interact with elected officials, employees, business leaders, and citizens.

A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field is required with a Master's degree preferred. Management level local government experience or comparable public administration experience is required.
Successful candidate must maintain a primary residence in Anson County. Candidate must pass drug screen and background check. A valid driver’s license is required. All employees are eVerified.
