NACo card provides potential savings on prescriptions
The NCACC’s pharmacy benefits provider in the new County Health Plan also partners with the National Association of Counties on its Prescription Drug Discount Card Program. Caremark administers the discount program, providing price savings and ease of use and understanding.
All NACo member counties are eligible to participate in the program, which can save card users about 20 percent. The card is available for anyone to use for potential discounts on prescription drugs not covered by insurance. NACo provides brochures and cards to participating counties for distribution to interested citizens. There are no forms for citizens to fill out, and no maintenance required on behalf of the county. There is no cost to counties participating in the program or citizens using the discount card.
The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. A national network of more than 57,000 participating retail pharmacies will honor the discount card.
A number of North Carolina counties are participating in the program.
“[The] program is up and running with ease in Buncombe County,” said Commissioner David Young, the NCACC’s second vice president. “Our citizens love it.”
Detailed information on the program is available at www.naco.org in the password-protected Member’s Only section. NACo has created log-in and password information for all manager and commissioner e-mail contacts they have on file. Your log-in identity will be your e-mail address, and your password will be the full name of your county (for example, Carteret County). If you can’t log in using your e-mail address, contact NACo at (202) 393-6226 and ask them to update your log-in information. After you log in, you can access the information via the “Prescription Drug Program” link along the right side of the page.
