Association awards four counties with safety and wellness grants

The NCACC Risk Management Pools announced four new safety and wellness grant winners in September. Anson County received $2,350 for a safety and wellness program, Granville County received $2,920 toward EMS fitness, and Edgecombe ($9,860) and Perquimans counties ($1,180) each received grants for employee health screenings.

The Pools started the Safety and Wellness Grant Program to help member groups access startup funds for programs they are interested in implementing for employees. The grants are available to any county or county entity that is participating and has participated in any of the three Risk Management Pools (County Health Plan, Liability & Property, Workers’ Compensation) for at least 12 months. The amount of the grant is based upon the number of full-time employees indicated on the grant application multiplied by the number of Pool programs the member is participating in at the time of the grant.

The Grants committee meets every quarter in January, April, July and October to review all the grant submissions that are received.

As part of the preparation to submit a grant request, members must first define the problem they hope to solve or impact by implementing a program. Members are to also define anticipated results of the program, including reductions in claims and absenteeism, increased employee productivity, and heightened morale. The grants review team also looks for measurable solutions, methods used to monitor program effectiveness, a budget, a timeline that includes steps to be taken for implementation, as well as how the member will use internal communications to heighten safety and wellness awareness.
