Rural water workshops to provide guidance on working with consulting engineers

The NC Rural Economic Development Center is sponsoring a series of four summer workshops focusing on "Rural Water and Wastewater Projects: Responsible and Effective Oversight of Consulting Engineers." The workshop series is coordinated by NCRCAP.

Participants will hear a variety of perspectives on selecting and working with paid consultants to get the services their community needs. This workshop series will equip participants with the tools, resources, and know-how to avoid common problems that can occur when communities and engineers work together on infrastructure projects. Presentations will include effective development and use of preliminary engineering reports, contract negotiation, and financial management in stressful economic times.

Note: Workshop attendance by a local government official will make that unit of local government eligible for bonus points on a future Rural Center grant application.

Who should attend?

  • Elected officials and staff of rural cities, towns and counties;
  • Infrastructure or Planning Advisory Board members; and
  • Other interested individuals
