Pigs may fly before a county tax collector wins a public popularity contest – and that's why the people in charge of collecting the taxes levied by county boards of commissioners must have thick skin. A handful of the best county tax collectors in the state shed their skin, so to speak, and traveled to Raleigh on Feb. 18 to share some of the methods and techniques they utilize to maintain high tax collection rates with members of the NCACC Tax and Finance Steering Committee.

With property valuations going up significantly in several coastal and mountain counties, the General Assembly is set to take a look at providing some relief for certain property owners this session. The Association’s Tax and Finance Steering Committee met Feb. 28 to hear how these property tax exclusions could impact counties.
Bond referendums top November wish lists (June 2006)
Groups advocating for transportation, rural water and land conservation needs are each seeking $1 billion in state bond money over the next five years. And all three groups – along with the executive director of the N.C. School Boards Association – appealed to the Association for support during a joint meeting May 18 of the Agriculture, Environment, and Taxation and Finance steering committees.
