Cabarrus hosts six steering committee meetings (September 2011)
Six of the NCACC's seven steering committees held meetings on Aug. 18 during the Annual Conference in Cabarrus County.
Guilford initiative targets substance abuse (June 2010)
Following a survey showing that 85 percent of residents rank drug abuse as a top priority to be dealt with in their county, Guilford County commissioners formed a committee to begin tackling the problem of substance abuse among adolescents and young adults. The NCACC's Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee learned about the county's efforts from Guilford County Commissioner Kay Cashion during its May 11 meeting in Raleigh.
Justice and public safety agencies could feel crunch (March 2010)
Counties could be impacted by potential state funding reductions to justice and public safety agencies for 2010-11, a team from the General Assembly's Fiscal Research Division told members of the NCACC Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee on Feb. 9.
Commissioners receive kudos for efforts on JCPC funding (December 2009)
The efforts of county commissioners helped stave off cuts to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils, said Teresa Price, deputy secretary for Community Programs at the N.C. Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP). Price spoke to members of the NCACC Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee on Nov. 17.
Groups want to boost awareness of sex trafficking in N.C. (February 2009)
County health, social services and law enforcement personnel are in need of training to help identify victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking, members of the NCACC Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee were told during their meeting Jan. 14 in Raleigh.
Proposal boosts age for juvenile offenders (April 2008)
Members of the NCACC Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee expressed concerns at their March 25 meeting with a proposal that would change the age at which an offender enters adult court jurisdiction from 16 to 18.
