President Kopp asks all counties to play a role in the Association's next 100 years following memorable centennial celebration in Craven
One hundred years after Craven County Commissioner C.E. Foy called upon county commissioners from across the state to meet to discuss issues of mutual concern, nearly 400 North Carolina county officials representing 92 counties traveled to New Bern – including one from Cherokee County, a 462-mile drive, one way – for the NCACC's 101st Annual Conference to pay homage to Foy's vision in a fitting show of county unity.

Mecklenburg's Mitchell named Outstanding County Commissioner

An unpopular stance on a highly controversial issue in Mecklenburg County during the winter cost Norman Mitchell his seat on the Board of Commissioners but won him the admiration of NCACC Past President David Young, who announced Mitchell as the M.H. "Jack" Brock Award winner as the 2008 Outstanding County Commissioner of the Year.

New report shows the 'State of the Counties'

Young's initiative demonstrates NCACC's value as a resource of accurate data, information
For the past year, a group of NCACC past presidents, appointed by 2007-08 NCACC President David Young and assisted by MPA students from North Carolina State University and UNC-Chapel Hill, identified important statistical benchmarks for counties and then researched those benchmarks. The result is a comprehensive State of the Counties report that was released during the 2008 Annual Conference in Craven County.

Drop in wealth behind recession, economist tells NCACC Board

While the nation's economic slowdown has softened the employment market, job loss hasn't been as bad as it has been in recent recessions – especially in North Carolina, according to an economist with N.C. State University. Dr. Michael Walden, a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor at N.C. State, addressed the NCACC's Board of Directors during its Aug. 21 meeting in Craven County.

Edgecombe County Commissioner Viola S. Harris will serve a second consecutive two-year term as president of the North Carolina Association of Black County Officials. NCABCO members held a business session and their annual awards luncheon in Craven County during the NCACC's Annual Conference.
