  1. NC Tomorrow: Building Communities for Tomorrow's Jobs

    April 27 - April 28 @ North Raleigh Hilton

    Building on the recent report "North Carolina Regional and Statewide Strategies for Comprehensive Community and Economic Development," the 2015 Summit will offer best practices, case studies and skill-building workshops for: Elected Officials; Community and Business Leaders; Local and Regional Planners; Local and Regional Economic Developers; City and County Managers.

  2. County Board’s Role in K-12 Public Education

    April 30, 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM @ Quorum Center

    This workshop is for county commissioners (and county staff members) who want to learn more about a county’s responsibilities for K-12 public schools and develop strategies for working more effectively with the county’s local school board(s). Through a combination of lecture, discussion, and interactive exercises, participants will explore the contours of a county’s funding and oversight responsibilities for schools and learn of tools that have been used by counties to foster a good (or at least better) working relationship with their local school board(s).

    Join NACo to learn more about an exciting new national initiative for counties, Stepping Up: A National Initiative to Reduce the Number of People with Mental Illnesses in Jails! This webinar will explain what the initiative is and the benefits to counties of signing on. Hear from your fellow NACo members as they describe four Stepping Up launch events across the country that will highlight their accomplishments in reducing the numbers of people with mental illnesses in their jail, and how you can register to virtually attend these events. Counties will be able to officially sign on to Stepping Up starting on May 5.
